Do you love K-Pop and Sokcho? We who love K-pop and Sokcho must also face the fact that attending K-pop concerts and various local festivals in Sokcho generates carbon emissions! So, what are some ways to keep enjoying and loving K-pop and Sokcho while minimizing our carbon footprint? Earlier this year, we researched and presented seven case studies together with young members of the climate action group Big Wave. The Sustainability Guidebook for the Cultural and Arts Sector published by the Arts Council Korea (ARKO) in February 2023 is divided into two volumes. Guidebook I is titled “Case Studies on Climate Crisis Response in the Cultural and Arts Sector: Focusing on Performing Arts Creation and Production,” and Guidebook II is “A Guide for Sustainable Creation and Production in Performing Arts.”

In the New York area centered around Broadway, there is an industry-wide initiative called the Broadway Green Alliance (BGA), which helps theatre communities and audiences create and enjoy environmentally friendly and sustainable arts culture. BGA provides guidelines to support the creation and enjoyment of sustainable and eco-friendly theatres and theatrical performances. As of October 2024, they share guidelines covering eight areas, including Green Closing, touring, production, and venues.
