Art Sonje Center, ‘Undo Planet’

‘Undo Planet’ is an exhibition that reexamines issues of climate change and ecosystems through the lens of memory. While “undo” typically means “to revert,” it also carries senses of “opening” and “releasing.” This show uses art to reflect on the Earth’s memories and those that our actions will leave for future communities, and to imagine new ecological possibilities yet to come. The exhibition began with site-specific research conducted since 2023 in Cheorwon County, Gangwon Province. Artists—including Yang Hyekyu, Dan Lee, Tarek Atoui, Hong Youngin, and Ikki Bawi Kur—collaborated with the Seoul National University Climate Research Lab, the Cheorwon Stone and Straw Weaving Master Association, the children’s choir “Children Singing for Peace” in Cheorwon, the DMZ Crane Peace Township, and the Yangjiri village community to carry out research and workshops. In total, 17 artists and teams are featured, exploring the themes of Community, Non‑human, and Land Art, including the five who participated in the 2023 field studies.

Schedule: 2024.12.03. – 2025.01.26.
