“2024 Daegu Independent Arts Festival,” exploring climate crisis and art in a vacant storefront in Dongseong-ro

Now in its 17th year, the Daegu Independent Arts Festival presents works that reflect the thoughts and efforts of artists facing the climate crisis as they seek sustainable ways to continue their practice. This year’s festival takes the form of a small-scale celebration, not only showcasing performances on the theme of climate crisis but also revealing the creative processes behind the artworks. During the festival, a forum titled “The Role of Local Arts Festivals in Responding to the Climate Crisis” will be held. It will include case presentations on “the role of artists for a sustainable future” and an open discussion session to share artistic practices that respond to the climate crisis.

Featured performances in the festival include The Story of Climate Refugees by Treadleban, A Sensitivity to Life in What’s Been Discarded by the upcycling band Hula, Earth, Life by the Park Siyeon Trio, and Lost Habitats of Flora and Fauna by Seo Minki. In addition to the performances, there will also be an exhibition of artworks that address the climate crisis through the unique perspectives of participating artists.
